Auto Manufacturers

Infotainment, GPS-based navigation, Wi-Fi hot spots, Internet radio, fault code alerts, maintenance guidance, location-based services, operating history documentation, fuel and eco-efficiency information. The addition of telematics and sensor technology over the last several years has completely changed the way auto manufacturers can connect and communicate with their owners. In the process, all of this technology has the potential to improve the ownership experience and improve the overall value of a brand.

Many vehicle manufacturers understand that the reputations of their brands rely on the continuous availability of accurate service information to both their franchised dealers and to independent service providers. Through the wide accessibility of this information, car companies are ensuring a positive ownership experience for their customers by providing for affordable, effective and convenient repairs throughout the lifetime of their vehicles.

Other vehicle manufacturers have taken a more limited view, preferring to see telematics as a near term competitive advantage that allows access to telematics data only to franchised dealers to help market their services. The Telematics Task Force believes that this approach will ultimately decrease the value of an automotive brand.

We call for all vehicle manufacturers to work with the Telematics Task Force to assure the secure and ongoing delivery of vehicle information to whomever the vehicle owner chooses as a service provider.
